Glengesh Pass
+353 (0)74 9721148
From Glencolumbkille a road heads inland towards Ardara, through the wild and picturesque Glengesh Pass where the road meanders through sloping mountainous terrain. Glengesh ( Gleann Geis, Glen of the Swans) is one of two glaciated valleys that sculpture the northern edge of the Banagh peninsula. The steeply plunging flank of Common Mountain ( 503m / 1,653ft ) on the glen’s south side shows to advantage on the N56 approach road from Glenties. The glen carries the road between Ardara and Carrick to a height of 270m / 900ft over Glengesh Pass via a couple of hairpin bends. Glengesh Pass is a high pass with an elevated window on Loughros Beg Bay, exquisitely framed between the steep sided Glengesh and Mulmosog mountains.
